A client living in this upmarket complex approached us to upgrade the shade structure over his patio. The new design had to compliment the existing architecture of the complex (Post Modern design from the 1980’s) and be robust enough to deal with the prevailing winds, which at times could be quite strong.
It was also important that the structure would be approved by the Management Committee of the complex, and that both the design and cost should be such that other owners could go the same route if they wished, as there has to be some sort of synergy in the design of the structures on different units. Cost was also a major factor, as the possibility existed that not all owners would necessarily wish to spend the same amount of funds on their outdoor spaces.
This challenge was met by designing a number of alternatives which would all be similar, but would vary in cost:- from the upmarket, motorised retractable roof version, with LED lights and outdoor roller blinds to close the sides, to the more economical, manually operated pergola with retractable roof. Owners would also have the option of covering the entire patio, or only covering half the existing outdoor space.
With all bases covered, each owner had a free reign, and our services would be made available to each individual, whether they only need a new pergola, or as an alternative opted for a complete revamp, including furniture and other accessories.
