This private residence in Cape Town central posed a rewarding challenge in its small size of 45sqm. The apartment was originally compartmentalized into three small rooms which negatively affected the already tight floor space. Our aim was to create one room that would serve multi functional purposes with the use of adaptable screening. The occupant is able to close off the bedroom for privacy when entertaining guests, opening up when he is alone to increase the feeling of space. The allusion of greater space was also heightened with the use of walls fully clad in mirror, which also increased natural light in the flat.
The design brief reflected the trends of the young, inner city living masculine owner using surfaces with a sophisticated mix of textured materials in black, white and grey, accented with oak tones. In the bathroom, an outdoor shower feel was achieved using wooden flooring that alluded to a sense of an open deck. Art and photography was sourced local Cape Town artists.
