This spectacular property is situated in the edge of the very exclusive and beautiful Radcliff Estate in Waterkloof Ridge, Pretoria.
It has views overlooking Pretoria to the Union Buildings and a total fall of 25m from the access street to bottom end of the erf. For the design and development of this project, we had to deal with very strict sight and height restrictions to avoid potentially disrupting the surrounding neighbours’ views across our property. The design challenges increased as time and development progressed. The site had its own characteristics that had to be kept in mind, combined with the client’s very specific and extended brief and requirements.
In order to accommodate all of the above, the house extends over three levels, a top, middle and lower floor, linked with a glass residential elevator with view of the Union Buildings in the distance. On entering the foyer, the viewer gets a glimpse “through the glass lift and house” onto the view beyond. Part of the welcoming experience is the square glass section in the middle of the floor which provided great detailing to the overall finish and gives a unique interaction between the upper and middle floor, as well as a dramatic feel to the house. The middle level is largely open plan areas divided into sections and functions, without hindering the views across the valley.
