This ultra modern home is set in a small Suburb on the South side of Johannesburg. It's designed on a 900 square metre site with a Northern side entry. The slightest challenge of this house design was ensuring that it is a home which makes full use of it's raised position in the neighbourhood as well as the Northern orientation which is on the street side without compromising the privacy of the home. Our architects designed an entry similar to a panhandle—This creating an extended driveway with parking and garages to the back of the property.
The Double Volume glass entrance is on the Eastern side of the property. On entry, you're faced by the flowing spiral staircase and views into the garden and entertainment areas beyond the glass wall. In this space lies a formal lounge, a dining area, and the kitchen all open plan (Scullery screened behind the kitchen). This entire open plan area opens up to the patio and gardens through frameless sliding doors which completely disappear from view when open. Further on you have a TV room in a more private part of the house, with access out to the patio and gardens. A guest suite is neatly tucked on the western side of the property overlooking the gardens and rimflow swimming pool.
Upstairs the occupants are housed in 4 en-suite bedrooms with ample North light and ventilation.
All habitable rooms in this house will greatly gain from the optimal orientation of the house which ensure warmth throughout by using the sun's heat as opposed to artificial heating.
The Street View shows the gate and overhead canopy. Beyond it is the floating forms of the bedroom nearest to the street.
This shot shows the Northen and Western elevations. All public spaces and 3 of the 4 bedrooms are positioned for optimal thermal penetration.
The View of the patio and the TV Room beyond that from the garden.
This view shows the driveway up to the garages. Also in view is the Kitchen and scullery and the entrance canopy.
