Project Description The contemporary bush lodge is located on a game farm in the North West Province. The site is surrounded by a dense concentration of indigenous thorn trees and shrubs. Large established acacia trees were incorporated into the design integrating the natural landscape with the interior programmes, while parts of the lodge was extended further into the landscape.

The concept behind the design was the celebration of vast openness and the freedom without boundaries. The sense of vast openness and abundant life. The intention is to infuse the natural landscape with the built house. This is done by creating large openings for views and access to suspended timber decks from which one can access the bushveld.

The design is fragmented into three main forms, to establish a realm of privacy between the different users (people). Each primary form has a corrugated roof with open trusses inside to expand the interior volume. The primary forms are divided by concrete roof elements which cover the bathrooms and passageways below.

The use of shear rock walls is used to divide the forms and spaces from one another while leading the users line of sight to the outside landscape. Orientating the building North East not only assists with the passive design of the house but orientates the user towards the valley below with infinite vistas.
