House Cornelius is situated in the lush residential area of Waterkloof, nested against a hill overlooking the Pretoria skyline.
The dwelling virtually conceptualized itself due to its proximity to the Pretoria CBD. Through the incorporation of the landscape in which it found itself and mirroring the urban front. We created an ambient space flowing between urban and residential settings. Through the amalgamation of natural materials such as timber and rock, the structure reads flawlessly as part of its direct surroundings. The urbanity of the structure is achieved through its clean lines and rigid forms. The client’s brief was to incorporate their family orientated lifestyle with contemporary structural assemblies. The site deemed challenging, because of the steep formation of the landscape. The residence is therefore securely embedded into the terrain and creates the impression that it is growing from the ground. Spatially, the open plan and linier design flows effortlessly from the internal spaces to the external patios. The tri-sliding aluminium doors allows the living areas to open in totality towards the outside.
