HOPLA is a culinary design studio created in 2012 by Magali Wehrung and
Agathe Bouvachon who developed a taste for the field as apprentices of
Marc Brétillot at the ESAD in Reims.
In 2010 Magali popped open the champagne to celebrate her design
diploma, obtained thanks to her mobile kitchen project offering cookery
workshops for young and old. 2013 was a good year with Magali joining
the staff of the ESAD as a culinary design teacher.
Agathe, meanwhile, sandwiched between sausages and bretzels, finished
her diploma in visual communications at the decorative arts school in
Strasbourg. She then joined Ich&Kar graphic design studio where,
among other things, she got to concoct graphic worlds with gastronomic
ingredients.
Now freelance designers, their work revolves as much around giving shape
and meaning to the food on display as to the place and occasion of
tasting.
Their personal experience of volume, image and appetite includes
creating themed banquets, collaborating with chefs, taking part in group
shows in France and elsewhere in Europe and running cookery workshops
in and around Paris, where they live for the time being.
