Designed and built with Hydrofloors advanced moving floor system, this imposing swimming pool is located two floors below ground in a prestigious, but outwardly small South Kensington mews house, the ideal scenario for a moving floor pool which allows multiple use of limited space.

Apart from having a serene, relaxing pool and spa for the family to enjoy, the very social owners wanted a flexible space that could be easily switched from swimming to entertaining up to 60 guests in a cool, comfortable environment. They wanted to have fun in and out of the pool!

The moving floor can be elevated to whatever water level desired. In this case, the client can set the moving floor at any level, from completely lowered at 2 metres for maximum swimming depth to raising it to a level that allows young children to paddle. And, of course, completely elevated, providing a robust and attractive floor for party time.

Working closely with architect and main contractor, Janine Stone, London Swimming Pool Company created a 15.8m x 3.2m metre classic design with two magnificent Roman ends. The steps are centred on the right side of the pool and cast into the pool wall to ensure that the moving floor glides smoothly over them.

The pool, which uses Ultra Violet and a low level of chlorine in the water, features two Hugo Lahme massage stations which are recessed, as are the Wibre 3 x 3 watt LED lights, avoiding any protrusion from the wall structure, aiding effortless elevation and lowering of the moving floor.

To meet the requirement for a tranquil pool hall, a cream colour scheme was chosen throughout and the pool walls are finished with 600 x 600mm elegant cream coloured porcelain tiles. The large format porcelain tiles were specially fabricated down to 20 x 20mm to achieve a perfect finish on the Roman ends. The same large format porcelain tiles were used for the pool surround creating a light and seamless feel to the 75 square metre pool hall.

An air handling system, which controls the temperature in the pool hall, is linked to the moving floor allowing the heating to set back the temperature when the pool cover is fully raised, which conserves energy. This client’s pool also has a chilling mode which drops the air temperature to 20 degrees, creating a nice cool ambience for large numbers of guests.
