SITE-Magadi lies in Ramanagara district in the state of Karnataka. It is fast becoming a part of the growing Bangalore district whose border is just 25km away. The site comprises of several contours with lowest level at 89.5 and the high-est  at 103.5. The client wanted the major area of the site to be utilised for  FARMING.  While designing, contour level for the residence was selected such that the structure and the surroundings blend with each other, so that users can enjoy views of the entire site. The major contour lines across the site were selected as circulation, locations for the house and the vista points for the same.

PROJECT DETAILS-Client- K.K.Chythanya    Built-Up Area- 275 sq.m.   Project Completion- July 2015.

The client ,Mr. K.K.Chythanya came forward with his preconceived notion about the farmhouse highlighting the expected users to be his family and his brother's family. Therefore, the client desired a design that could be easily disintegrated in the future without causing any major changes to the structure.

This farmhouse is built as a weekend getaway on 6 acres of farmland with mango and other fruit bearing trees and silver oak plantations. The house was designed to resonate with the vernacular surroundings, using the earth blocks from site in combination with a Mangalore tiled pitched roof. One interesting feature about this house was the client’s requirement for the house to be able to be partitioned equally at a later date. Therefore, provisions were made for a future division that included a central double height skylight that could be divided with a wall, and stairs on both sides leading up to the top floor. Large windows are used to frame the exquisite views of the site.

PLANNING PROCESS-The design of the house consisted of no level differences with concern to the age factor of the client's parent, hence a raised porch was designed at entrance along with the provision of entrance ramp. The porch introduces the internal attic and open kitchen surmounted by a pitched roof.

In this symmetric design, bedrooms form the arms extending from the attic and comprises a two-way attached toilets and a backyard.

Introduction of the openings and the internal attic aided in achieving cross-ventilation and stack effect leading to the reduced consumption of artificial cooling aids in achieving an energy-efficient design.

CLERESTORY DETAIL-Horizontal ribbon of clerestory runs throughout the house with a typical construction detail for stack effect, mosquito repellent environment and a reflective barrier against the harsh climate(i.e. high precipitation levels, summer season).
