House Drelingcourt Fresnaye, KMMA architects KMMA architects Modern dining room

This Fresnaye project involved the remodelling of an existing house. It enjoys spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean, Lion’s Head and Signal Hill. The result is a family home with an emphasis on casual interior and exterior living. The clients furthermore requested a house that facilitated for frequent entertaining and easy lock-and-leave.

The façade of the house comprises a series of rectangular forms that both respond to the views while also creating interior interest. The lower floor houses the garage, a home theatre and a covered terrace which leads to an outdoor pool deck and spa bath. On the middle floor, you can find the main living components: a spacious white concrete-topped open plan kitchen with separate scullery as well as an entertainer-friendly dining area. Beyond the dining area, is the living space located, which includes a separate TV room. This level is connected with the outdoors via a range of covered / shady and uncovered / sunny areas.

The upper level comprises four bedrooms with the main suite enjoying a private balcony that offers the most incredible Ocean vistas. The other bedrooms enjoy equally stunning views from a slightly different angle. In the main bathroom, large format porcelain tiles were used and are complemented by lacquered, custom-designed vanities with quartz stone tops. The floating timber, glass and steel stairway connects the different levels of the house seamlessly.

The main bedroom suite was reconfigured to provide a luxurious haven for the owners complete with an automated TV lift housed in an ottoman and a striking ensuite bathroom with a sculpted bathtub placed to maximize views when bathing.
