When it comes to designing custom-made graphics, the Peacock seems to be our current favorite among the elements of landscape iconography. Other than being one of the symbols of India, the form, colours and characteristics of the peacock have influenced a lot of our work lately. In traditional Indian crafts, the iconography of the peacock was (and still is) used in the art of weaving exquisite sarees in a place called Paithan in Maharashtra. The iridescence of the peacock’s beautiful plumage is mirrored in the iridescence of these sarees, with the peacock graphics dominating its yard length. When we got the opportunity to design a landscape for clients who had their roots in this illustrious city of Paithan, we automatically gravitated towards these two beautiful iridescent elements. So in the story of this particular Bāgh (garden),the peacocks are both, the heroes and the narrators…
