JONKERSHOEK ROAD, STELLENBOSCH, Gallagher Lourens Architects Gallagher Lourens Architects Modern bathroom

New private home for a couple in Stellenbosch. A strong emphasis is placed on creating an uninterrupted flow of nature through the house and a strong interior-exterior connection. A column of light forms the spine of the house, creating one big living space. The circulation is a strongly defined East-West route which runs perpendicular with the interior-exterior connection. The slightly hidden entrance pulls one into the house and reveals the light and volumes. From there the route leads to several different levels and spaces before it ends with the poplars at the end of the living space.

Water is used throughout the house to separate, define, and create spaces. The garage is separated from the living spaces by water and a light glass connection, and clad in stone in order to establish a connection with the earth instead of the rest of the house.
