Staircases are a very functional feature in the home, connecting two or more floors. However, they are also an opportunity to incorporate a design element into the home that is different, unique and invigorating, enhancing your home's style and decor.

Today we are going to look at 11 amazing staircases, where we can see just how many different varieties there are and how they each add incredible value to the home.

You'll learn just how beautiful a home can be if you pick the right staircase for you.

1. Grand

Stairs don't need to be subtle or hidden. They take up a wonderful section of the home, utilising the vertical space so make the most of it.

In this design, we can see how the designers have opted for a grand design, making the most of every section of it. They've created a beautiful little interior garden beneath the stairs, which works in harmony with the glass railing that lines the stairs.

2. Floating stairs

This design by Struktura Lukasz Lewandowski is a gorgeous example of modern design. Floating stairs create a gorgeous effect, giving the illusion that each step is floating in thin air.

Wooden stairs are always a great option for this design, especially if you go for white walls. Look how fabulous the two colours look in contrast with each other.

3. Smart storage space

Don't waste the space under your stairs—get creative! Fabulous stairs needs to be functional too, so install cupboards, drawers or racks under your stairs so that you can keep coats, bags, hats and accessories neat and out of sight.

4. Be artistic

If you don't like the traditional look and feel of a home, go for a creative, bright and colourful staircase!

Use wallpaper to make the walls that run parallel to your staircase bold and beautiful. Patterns, textures and colours can transform your staircase.

5. Glass

Glass is always a very elegant and classy feature for a home and the staircase is not exception. Glass can be used as a railing, like in this design, as well as for ornaments or accessories around the stairs.

6. Bookshelf

Remember we spoke about utilising the space under the stairs? Well check out how fabulous this design is by Dolmen Serveis, where a bookcase has been placed underneath the staircase?

This is the perfect use for a staircase and looks really trendy too! Remember that you don't have to just use the shelves for books. You can also use them for picture frames, accessories and ornaments.

7. To the loft

If you have a loft area in your home, it's always a great idea to feature light and subtle stairs that gently transition the downstairs to the upstairs area. In this design, for example, you can see how the designers have included a slightly curved wooden and white stair case, which doesn't take up too much space.

This is very sophisticated!

8. Funky

Don't be afraid to have a little fun with your staircase design!

In this design, we can see how the designers have sculpted the spiral staircase so that it looks like a tree. This is so artistic and enhances the entire home. Speak to your designer about how you can feature fun and innovative designs in your staircase and home.

9. Spiral with a twist

This staircase is an example of sheer design excellence. Don't you think it almost looks like a stack of Pringles chips, making its way down from the top floor to the bottom?

Innovative design can really shine in the form of staircases. Don't you love how the stairs disappear up into a little portal in the ceiling or how the designers have carved the stair railings out so carefully in a light wood?

10. Colour & Lights

Lighting can completely enhance not only your stairs but the living space around your stairs if done right, like in this design by Buratti + Battiston Architects. The architects have used a cherry-tinted glass to encase the stairs, which is illuminated by the lights that are featured under each staircase.

Very retro!

11. Industrial chic

Raw, concrete can be the ideal material to use for the staircase, adding an industrial chic look and feel to your home. Make sure the floors are polished and smooth and you'll have the trendiest staircase on the block.

Stairs should be an extension of your home's design, meaning that they are an extension of your personality. Don't be afraid to go all out!
